Accessibility

The Fort Wayne Zoo strives to meet the unique needs of every visitor that comes through our gates. We embrace initiatives to provide services and amenities to enhance accessibility for our guests and are proud of our certifications and commitment to this mission. See below for specific information about our various offerings.

Accessible Parking

Accessible parking spaces are available in front of Guest Services in the parking lot at the Zoo entrance.

Sensory Inclusive

The Fort Wayne Zoo is a certified sensory inclusive facility registered with KultureCity. We offer quiet places, sensory bags, and headphones. Our staff are trained to help guests with sensory needs enjoy their visit and sensory bags can be checked out at the Guest Services building.KultureCity PRIMARY To prepare for your Zoo visit, read our KultureCity social story.

Certified Autism Center

The Fort Wayne Zoo is a certified Autism Center through the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). Our staff have completed an autism-specific training and certification program to enhance knowledge and assist autistic and sensory-sensitive individuals. See our Fort Wayne Zoo Sensory Guides here.

Mobility Aids

All areas of the Zoo are mobility aid accessible which includes power chairs and wheel chairs. Reasonable accommodation for persons with a known disabling condition will be considered in accordance with State and Federal laws. Any person needing reasonable accommodation can reach out to Guest Services at 260-427-6800.

Wheelchairs are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis at the main entrance. Quantities are limited. If you would like assistance with pushing your wheelchair, please reach out in advance of your visit, and we’ll arrange for one of our friendly volunteers to help out.

Electric conveyance vehicles (ECV’s) for guests with mobility challenges are available for rent. The cost is $25 and guests are required to deposit a picture ID which will be given back upon return of the ECV. Sales tax applies to rental fees.

Wheelchairs and ECV’s can be found at the Wagon & Stroller Rental kiosk inside the front gate.

Mothers' Room

A mothers’ room is available for guests to utilize for pumping or breastfeeding. The Mothers’ Room is located behind Guest Services right inside the front gate.

Service Animals

Service animals consistent with applicable laws and regulations are welcome. Therapy or emotional-support animals are not permitted in the Zoo.

Due to the potential for direct physical contact between service animals and Zoo animals, service animals are restricted from the following areas:

  • Rain Forest Dome
  • Australia Walkthrough Aviary
  • Kangaroo Yard
  • Goat Yard
  • Giraffe Platform
  • Sky Safari
  • Crocodile Creek Adventure Ride

Caregiver Ticket Policy

A licensed individual who is required to escort, chaperone, and aid with a guest will be admitted free of charge with completion of the below requirements.

  • Dated documentation from a physician demonstrating the need for a caregiver within the last 365 days.
  • Active licensing information for the caregiver demonstrating their ability to properly care and accompany the guest(s) with disabilities.
  • Receipt of active, unused tickets (admission, rides, attractions) purchased or active membership card for the guest(s) with disabilities.

Due to the sensitivity of the documentation needed, it is encouraged but not required to email guestservices@fwzoo.com or submit in print at least 48 hours in advance to allow adequate time for staff to review documentation. For the complete Caregiver Policy, click here or visit Guest Services.

Emergency and Security Services

Fort Wayne Zoo staff members are trained in Adult and Pediatric CPR, AED, and First Aid from the Red Cross and are ready to help in an emergency. Should you or someone in your party experience an emergency situation, please ask any Zoo staff member for assistance.

Our Security team are prepared to handle any contingency situation and will respond quickly and accordingly to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our visitors.
