About

I LIVE IN ASIA

The white-crested laughing thrush is native to the foothill forests of the Himalayan Mountains throughout southeast Asia.

I AM AN OMNIVORE

This bird is known to eat a wide range of insects and fruits found in their natural habitat.

WHITE-CRESTED LAUGHING THRUSHES ARE SOCIAL

The avian species is a social bird, often roosting in large flocks and communicating with one another with a variety of calls and songs.

A CACKLING CALL

This white-crested laughing thrush gets it’s name from the cackling calls they make that can resemble laughter.

HELPING THE WHITE-CRESTED LAUGHING THRUSH IN THE WILD

By visiting the Fort Wayne Zoo, you are supporting local, regional, and global conservation. A portion of every ticket sold goes towards conservation of wildlife and wild places. Each year, the Fort Wayne Zoo donates over $250,000 to our conservation partners.

I AM IMPORTANT TO MY ECOSYSTEM

Because of the fruit-heavy diet, the white-crested laughing thrush plays an important role in their ecosystem dispersing seeds, aiding in biodiversity.
